The Feds Need to Do Something!!

Texas no longer leads the nation in job creation as the state’s employment growth in March fell to its lowest in nearly 21/2 years. The state added 9,100 jobs last month, which was the smallest monthly gain since October 2011, according to government data released Friday. That’s decreased drastically  from an upwardly revised 39,100 jobs in February and 43,000 jobs in January. “While this is a disappointing report for the month, Texas is still in good shape,” said Wells Fargo economist Michael T . Wolf. Despite the drop in job growth, the state’s unemployment rate ticked lower in March. Texas ranked sixth nationally for the most job gains last month, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Florida was number one, with 22,900 jobs. The data follows other recent reports that reinforce solid but not stellar economic growth in Texas. The economies of eight U.S. regions, including Texas, grew at a “modest” pace in the six weeks through early April, according to the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book report released earlier this week. Overall in March, BLS data shows 34 states added jobs, 16 states lost jobs, and Washington, D.C., saw no change. For Texas, it’s a bit of a different story. The state added 310,000 jobs across all 11 major industry groups for the 12 months through March. That was enough to rank Texas second, after California’s 325,000 new jobs, according to BLS data.
Despite Texas’ slower job growth, its unemployment rate fell from 5.7 percent in February to 5.5 percent in March. That was well below the U.S. rate of 6.7 percent last month.
I'm not sure what the bank feels it needs to do in this situation. Maybe they could raise the minimum wage p, whinpch has been under debate recently. Unfortunately, these drops in job growth are alarming. It's as if people no longer have the will power to just go out and get a job. I'm 18 and already have a job, so I don't see what the big deal is about getting off the couch from eating ice cream all day is, to putting on a suit and tie and getting out into the world and applying for a job. We need to get back up there to lead the nation in job creation. Please don't go down the drain Texas!

GP Set Free

A Grand Prairie man, Stevie Barnes was found not guilty of murder in the 2012 shooting death of a man at a Far North Dallas drug house. On Wednesday after an eight-day trial, Stevie LaTodd Barnes was released shortly after that from the Collin County jail, where he had been held since he was arrested on Feb. 1, 2013. His attorneys were Mitch Nolte and Gregg Gibbs. They both claim that they knew that he was innocent way before this case even had to go into trial. Barnes had originally been charged with capital murder. He was accused of shooting 24-year-old Jamie Demarcus Smith during the course of a robbery in an apartment in the 5000 block of Pear Ridge Drive in Collin County. Barnes had originally been charged with capital murder. He was accused of shooting 24-year-old Jamie Demarcus Smith during the course of a robbery in an apartment in the 5000 block of Pear Ridge Drive, which is in Collin County. Police documents said about $1,000 was reported missing from the apartment. But Nolte said there was no evidence of missing money presented at trial. The reason why this is so important to our economy is due to the fact that some people are actually innocent and others are running out there trying to steal money which they haven't earned. Plus, the killing of a man is obviously just horrible. That $1,000 has got to come from somewhere. What if we need that $1,000 for an emergency or something. We need to lock the real criminals up before robberies and more murders occur, which is not good for us at all socially or economically. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/best-southwest/headlines/20140327-grand-prairie-man-found-not-guilty-of-murder.ece

Obama Spendin' Mula?!

President Obama called for more spending on community colleges, job training, infrastructure, and research and development as he touted an election-year budget that seemed to complete his shift in focus from budget cutting to job creation. Obama delivered a $3.8-trillion budget plan to Congress and blew through a promise to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. Obama sent the document to Capitol Hill along with a message about pushing the economic recovery now and worrying more about deficit reduction down the road. A central feature of the budget is a proposal to ask the wealthy to shoulder more of the burden of paying down the deficit. The 2013 budget counts $1.5 trillion in increased taxes, including the expiration of the George W. Bush-era tax cuts for top earners, increased estate taxes, and also higher rates on investment income. Obama told a crowd Monday at a community college in northern Virginia, "At a time when our economy is growing and creating jobs at a faster clip, we've got to do everything in our power to keep this recovery on track," "By reducing our deficit in the long term, what that allows us to do is to invest in the things that will help grow our economy right now. We can't cut back on those things that are important for us to grow." I think Obama’s plan to spend more money on community colleges, job training, and research development is a good idea, although I will admit that $3.8-trillion dollars is an awful lot to be spending. Is it that necessary to be spending that much. Maybe he should invest less into it. We might need that money in the future for emergency purposes. http://articles.latimes.com/2012/feb/14/nation/la-na-obama-budget-20120214
