Boy Scouts Save A Life

Ann Curry, former co-anchor of "The Today Show," was rescued from a New York mountain by Boy Scouts after she broke her ankle, according to the blog Bryan on Scouting, part of Scouting Magazine. Ann Currywas hiking with her husband and son at Harriman State Park, which is about 30 miles north of New York City, when she injured herself. Luckily, a troop of New Jersey boy scouts, found her on their way to wherever they were going.

Their adult leader, Rick Jurgens, said they came to a trail intersection and a lady was sitting n the ground with her leg out. Luckily, when one of the boys asked if everything was ok, Ann Curry replied, stating that she thought her annkle was broken. If he hadn;t asked tht question, they would've left her there without any questions asked. They splinted up her ankle perfectly due to their training from Jurgens. They neever did realize they were helping out a celebrity. Ann Curry is the co-anchor for The Today Show.

This goes to show that there are still good people in the world. Despite all the bad things our world might experience, a little act of kindness can go a long way. It makes me happy to know there is still good out there.

The Feds Need to Do Something!!

Texas no longer leads the nation in job creation as the state’s employment growth in March fell to its lowest in nearly 21/2 years. The state added 9,100 jobs last month, which was the smallest monthly gain since October 2011, according to government data released Friday. That’s decreased drastically  from an upwardly revised 39,100 jobs in February and 43,000 jobs in January. “While this is a disappointing report for the month, Texas is still in good shape,” said Wells Fargo economist Michael T . Wolf. Despite the drop in job growth, the state’s unemployment rate ticked lower in March. Texas ranked sixth nationally for the most job gains last month, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Florida was number one, with 22,900 jobs. The data follows other recent reports that reinforce solid but not stellar economic growth in Texas. The economies of eight U.S. regions, including Texas, grew at a “modest” pace in the six weeks through early April, according to the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book report released earlier this week. Overall in March, BLS data shows 34 states added jobs, 16 states lost jobs, and Washington, D.C., saw no change. For Texas, it’s a bit of a different story. The state added 310,000 jobs across all 11 major industry groups for the 12 months through March. That was enough to rank Texas second, after California’s 325,000 new jobs, according to BLS data.
Despite Texas’ slower job growth, its unemployment rate fell from 5.7 percent in February to 5.5 percent in March. That was well below the U.S. rate of 6.7 percent last month.
I'm not sure what the bank feels it needs to do in this situation. Maybe they could raise the minimum wage p, whinpch has been under debate recently. Unfortunately, these drops in job growth are alarming. It's as if people no longer have the will power to just go out and get a job. I'm 18 and already have a job, so I don't see what the big deal is about getting off the couch from eating ice cream all day is, to putting on a suit and tie and getting out into the world and applying for a job. We need to get back up there to lead the nation in job creation. Please don't go down the drain Texas!

GP Set Free

A Grand Prairie man, Stevie Barnes was found not guilty of murder in the 2012 shooting death of a man at a Far North Dallas drug house. On Wednesday after an eight-day trial, Stevie LaTodd Barnes was released shortly after that from the Collin County jail, where he had been held since he was arrested on Feb. 1, 2013. His attorneys were Mitch Nolte and Gregg Gibbs. They both claim that they knew that he was innocent way before this case even had to go into trial. Barnes had originally been charged with capital murder. He was accused of shooting 24-year-old Jamie Demarcus Smith during the course of a robbery in an apartment in the 5000 block of Pear Ridge Drive in Collin County. Barnes had originally been charged with capital murder. He was accused of shooting 24-year-old Jamie Demarcus Smith during the course of a robbery in an apartment in the 5000 block of Pear Ridge Drive, which is in Collin County. Police documents said about $1,000 was reported missing from the apartment. But Nolte said there was no evidence of missing money presented at trial. The reason why this is so important to our economy is due to the fact that some people are actually innocent and others are running out there trying to steal money which they haven't earned. Plus, the killing of a man is obviously just horrible. That $1,000 has got to come from somewhere. What if we need that $1,000 for an emergency or something. We need to lock the real criminals up before robberies and more murders occur, which is not good for us at all socially or economically. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/community-news/best-southwest/headlines/20140327-grand-prairie-man-found-not-guilty-of-murder.ece

Obama Spendin' Mula?!

President Obama called for more spending on community colleges, job training, infrastructure, and research and development as he touted an election-year budget that seemed to complete his shift in focus from budget cutting to job creation. Obama delivered a $3.8-trillion budget plan to Congress and blew through a promise to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. Obama sent the document to Capitol Hill along with a message about pushing the economic recovery now and worrying more about deficit reduction down the road. A central feature of the budget is a proposal to ask the wealthy to shoulder more of the burden of paying down the deficit. The 2013 budget counts $1.5 trillion in increased taxes, including the expiration of the George W. Bush-era tax cuts for top earners, increased estate taxes, and also higher rates on investment income. Obama told a crowd Monday at a community college in northern Virginia, "At a time when our economy is growing and creating jobs at a faster clip, we've got to do everything in our power to keep this recovery on track," "By reducing our deficit in the long term, what that allows us to do is to invest in the things that will help grow our economy right now. We can't cut back on those things that are important for us to grow." I think Obama’s plan to spend more money on community colleges, job training, and research development is a good idea, although I will admit that $3.8-trillion dollars is an awful lot to be spending. Is it that necessary to be spending that much. Maybe he should invest less into it. We might need that money in the future for emergency purposes. http://articles.latimes.com/2012/feb/14/nation/la-na-obama-budget-20120214

Global Warming? That Sounds Hot

Lately, according to the United Nations climate panel for the first time is connecting hotter global temperatures to hotter global tempers. Top scientists are saying that climate change will complicate and worsen existing global security problems. Scientists assume that the hotter the temperatures get, the need for resources will increase, causing for competition which made lead to violence. For the past seven years, research in social science has found more links between climate and conflict, study authors say, with the full report referencing hundreds of studies on climate change and conflict. The U.S. Defense Department says that the climate change may be a threat-multiplier, along with poverty, political stability, and social tensions worldwide. This wouldn't end well for any nations. Especially the ones that are already suffering poverty The reason everyone is so hyped up about the global warming issue is due to the fact that not only will the weather be continuously changing and affecting our environment in many ways, but soon their will be a fight for resources between human beings. Violence between the human race is literally the last thing we need at this time, or ever. When it comes down to it, man will fight to survive. Survival for the fittest I guess you could call it, but when people really want something and its a limited resource, they will fight to get it. For example, every month or so they release a different pair of Jordan brand shoes that everyone wants. I remember at Town East mall, people were lined up to get the new Jordan's. It got bad enough to the point where people were fighting each other and the police had to get involved and use pepper spray. Now, imagine that, but only with resources that we actually need to survive...I'll give you a minute to illustrate that in your head. Hectic, right? This is why the issue of global warming is so vital and not an issue that we can overlook. We need to do something about this before it's too late and all hell breaks loose. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/30/un-report-global-warming-_n_5058539.html

Disney Breaks Ties with Boy Scouts

Disney ends funding to the Boy Scouts of America Disney ends funding to the Boy Scouts of America due to their policy that bans gay adult leaders in the organization. The Disney organization decided to cut off all funds, which will cause the Boy Scouts of American organization to lose a big contribution of where they got most of their funds from. It was first realized that Disney would cut off all funds when they sent a letter out to troops saying so. Not only did Disney provide funds, but they also donated some money to troops. I honestly think that this will impact kids and their thoughts on the Boy Scouts organization due to the fact that many of the kids at younger ages tend to know and enjoy Disney as a household name, but now that the name is no longer associated with the Boy Scouts, many kids won’t want to participate in it. It’s honestly irks me to know that people these days are still not treating each other as equal. Years and years we’ve been fighting for equality, and for what?! To find the next thing to judge someone upon. That’s pretty messed up if you ask me. Economically, this could prove as another turning point in the way we as Americans handle, and deal with thing. For one, the topic of gay marriage and what not has been ongoing recently these past couple of years. There’s no more turning a blind eye to it because many people are trying to change these things so they can have equal rights just like everyone else. Day in and day out, we Americans go through life being worried that we won’t be accepted, and that’s one of the reasons why. People just don’t want to change their viewpoints on things. This topic, I’m sure, will continue for a little while longer, but it takes time to get to perfection… am I right?!
